The post before the tech journey posts
This is my answer to the question “How did you get into coding? And do you have any advice for a someone starting out?” I was originally asked on the platform Jamma.com, link to the original answer you can find by clicking here.
I was first introduced to coding when I was doing this college course some years back and one of the units we were doing was coding. It was nothing complex, now that I look back at it, but it was a really great introduction to my very first programming language HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) and my first styling language CSS (Cascading Style Sheets). A lot of the time you may see them being described as the skeleton of the body and the skin respectively.
The advice I would have for people starting out would first and foremost be to be prepared to make mistakes, join the tech communities out there as it is a very helpful community and do a bit of coding every day. Whether that is learning or building things with what you have learned so far.
Outside of the above I would like to also recommend these resources which I used and most of which I still use whilst on my developer journey:
Freecodecamp.com - I used this website a lot when I finished the college course and it is a really invaluable resource
Udemy (more specifically the Web development bootcamp by Colt Steele is really amazing)
CodeNewbie - a really great podcast on Spotify
Techish - another really great podcast covering all things tech, pop culture and life.
Bridge The Gap in Tech - You can find this group on MeetUp, a really amazing group of people in tech discussing a variety of different topics in the bi-weekly Thursday coffee mornings and bi-weekly Sunday evening sessions
I think that about covers it, I hope that helps.
PS: Since having written that answer additional resources I would suggest checking out are the following, Somalis In Tech, Bridge the Gap In Tech, Amina’s (@yeahshewrites) linktree and lastly for UX/UI check out Mabintou’s (@Mabin2_) Google Doc of resources.
